The European social model is basically a promise of politicians to their citizens: a promise to protect their citizens from certain problems, "to take care of them". Nowadays, the promise of social security is the most important offer that the politicians have to offer to their citizens in exchange for their support of the project of the European Union.

We are pleased to announce that approximately 40 full scholarships are made available by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the one-year fulltime M.Sc. programme in Public Health as offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, for the coming academic year 2006/2007.

On 10 May 2006 Dr. Cabrnoch participate on international eHealth Conference held in Málaga, Spain. He presented his speech called "Better Communication: A Way to Better Health" on the workshop "eHealth in an enlarged Europe: A universe of opportunities". In health care, we talk about availability of care for all, about financial stability of systems and about the quality of the health care. Quality, availability and financial stability were set as the main goals for the development and reform of the health care systems in a European Commission report titled, "Modernising social protection for the development of high-quality, accessible and sustainable health care and long-term care".

On Wednesday the 13th of September 2005, a seminar devoted to the problems of oncology in the member states of the European Union took place in the premises of the European Parliament. I gladly accepted the patronage over the seminar as well as participation in its organization.
