eHealth Days 2012

The traditional eHealth Days took place on the October 16 and 17 2012 in Brno. The participants had an opportunity to hear different kind of presentations concerning technical solutions as well as analysis of some eHealth projects. Many assistant directors of the technological companies, representatives of health facilities as well as patient’s representatives, insurance companies and Ministry of Health gathered on this occasion.

At the end of the first presentation day Milan Cabrnoch presented his ideas and put hereby the Czech eHealth into a European context. He described a situation in the Czech Republic and in the whole Europe which is characterized by population ageing, distrust in public budget, higher mobility of people and information technologies which all results in better awareness of citizens, i.e. patients. All these factors are changing the balance of the society.

Milan Cabrnoch pointed out: “The society needs to agree on the concept which will define what is expected from eHealth and the health care system in general. Imposed solution will not bring anything good. It will not be accepted either by the doctors or by patients. I personally consider that the step to the changes is unavoidable and healthcare needs to be focused on health instead of treatment and on patients instead of doctors.

However, this demands big changes in the system which nowadays does not really motivate for such amendments to be done. eHealth is one of the instruments which might help to improve healthcare but it is absolutely not the only one objective of changes.

Later on, the deputy of the Ministry of Health Petr Nosek presented his defense of highly-criticized public tender of the electronic health care system in the Czech Republic.
